Get to know the people behind the technologyMedia Excel is comprised of a World Class Engineering Team specializing in video compression, digital signal processing, and hardware/software design. Collectively, the team has over 150 years of experience specifically in the product development in the digital media industry with multiple PhD's in compression technologies. Jongil KimPresident and CEO - FounderJongil is Media Excel's Founder, President and Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for evangelizing Media Excel technologies and envisioning corporate product strategy. Jongil has 20 years of technology and product development experience in the digital video industry. Prior to founding Media Excel, Jongil was with MOSAID Technologies, where he architected MPEG acceleration of graphics chips and verification of Gigabit Fabric chip design. Prior to MOSAID, Jongil led MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 technology teams at Daewoo Electronics Video Research Center, where he received the Best Technology Inventor Award. Mr. Kim received an M.S., and B.S., from the Yonsei University in Korea, where he specialized in digital signal processing and attended his Ph.D. studies in compression technologies at the University of Texas at Austin. In his free time, Jongil enjoys coaching Little League Baseball. JOHN HOTCHKISSChief Operating OfficerJohn has more than 15 years of business and financial management experience in a variety of industries. Mr. Hotchkiss guides the operations, HR, finance, and developing corporate strategy of the company. Prior to joining the Company in 2002, Mr. Hotchkiss worked for EDS as a Systems Analyst and assisted in the management of various investments in technology, restaurant, and real estate companies. Mr. Hotchkiss graduated from Baylor University, where he received a double degree in Management Information Systems and Performance Improvement Technologies with a minor in Real Estate. John is an avid tennis player and sailor, while enjoys seeking best wineries around the world. JAMES PLATTVice President of FinanceJames is the Vice President of Finance for Media Excel. He draws on his more than 20 years of experience in various accounting and finance positions in managing Media Excel’s accounting, finance and human resources. Prior to joining Media Excel, Mr. Platt initially spent six years with Ernst & Young’s San Antonio office performing audits on clients of varying sizes and industries. He then joined SBC (now AT&T), where his responsibilities included financial planning and analysis of the company’s wireless businesses in the US and assessing new products and services available to the company’s landline business after deregulation. In 2000, James joined Wayport, a start-up company based in Austin, Texas that provided broadband Wi-Fi services in hotels, airports and McDonalds restaurants. Prior to the sale of Wayport to AT&T in 2008, James had numerous responsibilities that included managing the development of the company’s initial billing system, approving all new sales contracts and performing analysis and due diligence procedures on merger and acquisition opportunities. James is a CPA and graduated with a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He enjoys all sports, particularly golf and basketball. Norman KrebillVice President of Sales, OTTNorman has worked for companies on the cutting edge of video encoding technology for the last 10 years. At Darim Vision Corp. he developed a worldwide distribution channel for one of the first h.264 live video encoding appliances. At broadcast International he was instrumental in securing adoption by Global companies like IBM, HP, Oracle and others of an enterprise software platform for video encoding. He was a leader in defining and promoting Cloud Transcoding service and OTT on the Cloud. Norman has a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Technology from San Jose State University and an MBA from Sacramento State University James MeekerVice President of Sales, NORTH AMERICAJames currently serves as Media Excel’s Vice President of Sales overseeing all North America sales operations and providing key product direction through customer interface. Internally proliferating his acquisition sales strategies keeps the company focused on growth and customer demand. Prior to Media Excel, James was recruited by DELL Computer, where he was the most highly awarded Senior Sales and Marketing executive on record during his tenure. He has extensive experience in providing solutions to global organizations on an enterprise level and interfacing with high profile Senior Management and Executives. James also worked for LANIER Worldwide as a Senior Sales Executive providing equipment solutions to all demographics of businesses, contributing to his success in negotiating with all levels of customers. James brings more than 20 years of entrepreneurial, operational, and marketing management experience to the Media Excel executive team. Soonkeon KwonVice President of EngineeringSoonkeon is Vice President of Engineering at Media Excel with 18 years of engineering experience in the area of MPEG hardware and software product, algorithm research and development. Soonkeon has been the team leader involved in the development of HERA products since the year 2001. Prior to joining Media Excel, he worked for Digital Video Research Center at Daewoo Electronics, where he was a team leader responsible for designing the MPEG video decoder for HDTV, and MPEG audio chip development. Nikos KyriopoulosDirector of Product MarketingNikos has been with Media Excel since 2005 and is in charge of formulating product development and market targeting strategies. He oversees the company’s product lines and coordinates relationships with key customers and partners. Prior to Media Excel, Nikos was the co-founder of WaterOn, a startup that introduced innovative geo-navigation (GIS) information retrieval and presentation technologies that were later officially adopted as EU-wide prototypes. Nikos also worked with Lambrakis Press, one of the largest media groups in southern Europe, as a Software Architect for a series of large-scale digital library products.
